German Shoe Museum Hauenstein

The permanent exhibition of the German Shoe Museum Hauenstein presents itself in a new look. Discover the exciting diversity of shoes: shoe history(s), shoe manufacturing, shoe trade, shoe advertising, celebrity shoes, style icons and much more. Many new exhibits and pictorial documents are on display, numerous German shoe manufacturers are portrayed, and the shoe is honoured as a fashion statement. The dark sides of the shoe industry of yesterday and today are also the subject of the new presentation.

Wasgaufreibad Hauenstein

With the Wasgaufreibad Hauenstein, the climatic health resort of Hauenstein can call one of the most beautiful natural outdoor pools in the region its own. In the heated, spring-fresh natural water, you can enjoy a day of swimming in the 50-metre stainless steel pool with diving area or in the non-swimmer's pool with slide and water mushroom. Our little ones can enjoy themselves in the separate paddling pool or at our spacious water playground. From the spacious sunbathing lawns you have a view of the imposing rock panorama of Backelstein and Burghalder.

The swimming pool restaurant serves fresh food and daily changing offers as well as a selection of cool drinks and ice cream specialities.

Theme Trail "On Cobbles

The theme trail "Auf Schusters Rappen" (on foot) links the past of the climatic health resort of Hauenstein (shoe production) with the present and future (shoe trade and tourism). More than a dozen stations provide insights into the development of shoes in the industrial age, the everyday life of factory workers and the inhabitants of Hauenstein. The theme trail begins with the emergence of the shoe industry in 1886, shows the production process of the shoe with original machine exhibits and tells anecdotes from community life with the help of picture and information boards and a video.

Palatinate Sports Museum

With the Palatinate Sports Museum, the German Shoe Museum in Hauenstein is home to a sports history highlight. The museum is dedicated to the origins and development of gymnastics and sport in the Palatinate. On 250 m², more than 450 exhibits, numerous information panels and multimedia content show the history of the development of sport in the Palatinate - starting at the end of the 18th century. The museum also has changing special exhibitions.

Shoe Factory Adventure Centre

In Josef Seibel's new open shoe factory, you can get up close and personal with the production of shoes: from the selection of the leather to the finished, hand-sewn shoe, you can experience production live. If watching is not enough for you, you can even become a designer yourself and customise your own sneaker on site. You also have the opportunity to gain exciting insights into the history of the company all the way to the "Spirit of Nature" collection, the concrete concept for a sustainable future in the shoe industry.

Experience the art of artisanal oil extraction up close in the glass factory of Wasgau Ölmühle Hauenstein. See how oil is produced in a natural way. Feel how the raw materials feel and how oil is made by hand. Taste the delicious, natural organic cooking oils, products from the oil press cake and other Palatinate specialities in the affiliated farm shop. Smell the different characters of the oils.
